During a volleyball game, only 6 players can be on the court for each team. Therefore, there are 6 positions. Unfortunately, there aren’t any sold positions and we must rotate which can be a little confusing learning club rotations.
According to the club I played for, these were the positions during rotations when the opponent attempts to spike/hit:
NOTE: Refer to the diagram shown in the post about the numbers in setting and what they mean.
In the diagram, front middle is written as setter and to the right of that is the setting number 5. In volleyball positions, the setter in the diagram is 5 and the one to the right is 6.
Serve Receive/Defense:
Position 1 is the Setter
Position 2 is Middle Blocker/Libero (Depends on whether it is serve receive or defense) (Serve Receive: MB would be at the back middle if that’s where the rotation is) (Defense: MB would be at the front middle blocking the hit while the Libero is directly behind just in case the volleyball makes it past the block)
Position 3 is the Outside Hitter
Position 4 is the Opposite, they block, hit, etc.
Position 5 is the Middle Blocker; usually MB 2
Position 6 is the Right Side Hitter
Attack:
Position 1 is Defense Specialist (They have the ability to play all positions on the court)
Position 2 is Libero (The back is the most common place people serve to as of what I have seen)
Position 3 is Outside Hitter
Position 4 is Opposite
Position 5 is setter at the front center. (Being in this spot on the court allows the setter to set to all positions on the court easier)
Position 6 is Right Side Hitter
Thank you for reading! Hope this helps!
